At the Women's Special Interest Group of the Internet Society and in
coordination with Wikimedia Foundation, we are organizing the 1st Global
Editathon "Girls in ICT" on April 28 on the occasion of the Girls in ICT
Day (which is on April 26).



We want to create content written by women and about women on the Girls in
ICT Day, mainly to make women in technology more visible and to inspire
girls to pursue STEM careers. On that day, we will edit the biographies of
women: founding, pioneers, entrepreneurs, developers, and leaders in
technology from each region.



What is an Editathon? "An editathon is a marathon in which we edit, create
and improve Wikipedia articles with reliable and verifiable sources on a
specific subject. We also upload to Wikimedia Commons images related to it,
to build together the complete story of the event. It is a participatory
activity that adds a face-to-face dimension to the online task of volunteer
editors and editors who, in addition to bringing socialization to the
community, makes it more visible to the public."

*We are looking for support to organize nodes of edition within the ISOC
Chapters.*



Is your Chapter interested? This is what you need:



-Availability to organize the local node on April 28, 2018 (note that the
Girls in ICT Day in on April 26, but in order to facilitate the
organization of the editathon, we plan to do the event on April 28. Each
node can decide the time).

-A place where the participants can bring their laptops: it can be a
school, a university, a cultural or community center in your country etc.

-Internet connection.

-Develop a list of women: founding, pioneers, entrepreneurs, developers,
and leaders, of whom we will create or edit their biography in Wikipedia.

-Share the invitation with your chapter members and promote the
participation of women and girls in the editathon.

-Send us your information to the mail: sigwomenisoc at gmail.com no later
than *Monday,
April 9.*



In addition, we are planning to have a "Wikipedia edition" webinar a week
before the event.
