> Subject: CALL FOR Expression of Interest -- The African Young Women Leaders Fellowship -- A UNDP-AUC Initiative
>
> Dear Colleagues,
>
> I am excited to inform you of the birth of a brand new baby in UNDP - The African Young Women Leaders Fellowship. The Programme, a joint initiative with the African Union Commission, is first of its kind, aimed at: i) shaping the next generation of female global leaders; (ii) equipping female leaders with skills and experience required to advance the SDGs and contribute effectively to decision making in public, private and multilateral institutions; iii) creating a diverse pool of talent to enhance UNDP’s organisational efficiency and contribute to more responsive and effective planning, policies and programs; and iv) developing a network of young African women professionals that engages in promoting innovative, sustainable and inclusive development through south-south development exchanges.
>
> RBA will kickstart the initiative this year with 15-20 candidates who will be assigned to UNDP offices for a short 12-month fellowship funded through a joint African Union-UNDP facility managed by UNDP. This pioneering initiative has been developed in partnership with UNDP’s Office for Human Resources team who have provided invaluable support and guidance in bringing this new fellowship modality to reality within UNDP. This first cohort of female African Fellows will be on board from October 2019, with subsequent intakes in 2020 and 2021 to include representatives from participating African countries. The objective is to field candidates from all 54 African countries. It is hoped that countries will contribute to sponsoring their citizens on the programme so the financial responsibility is shared. We hope to deploy these young talents to HQ, regional offices and country offices in all locations where UNDP is present. The selection process will be rigorous, and we are going for the best only. Candidates will be drawn from a pool of recent graduates from world class institutions, with Masters Degrees/PHDs as well as a demonstrated interest in global leadership roles.
>
> Although priority will be given to posting within RBA, we are keen to extend this offer to other Regional and Central Bureaux in UNDP as a way of promoting cross-regional/cross Bureaux experience. Positions can be considered for HQ, Regional Hubs and Country Offices. In this regard, I wish to request your expression of interest to host (at no cost to your offices) a young African woman leader by providing a time bound assignment with clear supervision and mentorship. These talented African young women Fellows will be able to support SDG implementation, acceleration and innovation while undertaking learning as an integral part of the assignment including leadership development and mentorship. They will no doubt be among future global leaders who would have sound training and leadership orientation towards human development, sustainable development and creating peaceful societies.
>
> If you would be interested in participating in this programme, you are kindly requested to submit a Fellowship terms-of-reference based on the attached generic terms-of-reference and to provide answers to six questions in this Expression of Interest <https://eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.surveymonkey.com%2Fr%2FExpressionOfInterest_AYWL&data=02%7C01%7Csirra.foon%40uncdf.org%7C7bce50260d124ca1d26c08d6fef0e320%7Cb3e5db5e2944483799f57488ace54319%7C0%7C0%7C636976708025557300&sdata=QRloUOxR0qPs0FpX6irCsQwCIVVPlpS8iB23UpR%2B6r4%3D&reserved=0> online survey.
>
> The project team (angela.lusigi at undp.org <mailto:angela.lusigi at undp.org>, alemstehaye.girma at undp.org <mailto:alemstehaye.girma at undp.org> and Lykke.andersen at undp.org <mailto:Lykke.andersen at undp.org> ) will be happy to provide any clarification and follow up with your indicated focal point to firm up the final TORs and review candidates for the proposed fellowship position in your office.
>
> Please complete the online survey and send the draft Fellowship TOR to the project team by 10 July 2019.
>
> I look forward to working with you to develop this next generation of global leaders to drive UNDP’s agenda for transformation in Africa.
